Growing up, my dad would always buy us long sleeves linen shirts whenever he's in the capital for a convention. He'd come home to a handful of these and they were always in White. He'd tell us to wear it to church, to family dinners, to social gatherings with relatives.
But honestly, I never really liked the idea.
I did not like it because I never understood why I had to wear it over my body hugging tops and favorite tees. I thought it needed too much time to get dressed- folding the sleeves EQUALLY, making sure my collars pop and the hem all tucked in neatly. Who was I kidding, right? Sure, my mom loves all things linen, from tops, to pants, to curtains, to table runners and even bags. But linen shirts? It was too much of a bad piece of clothing for me back then.
Looking back, I never really noticed when I started loving it. All I know is that one day, I woke up to a handful of long sleeves linen shirts in my closet and it was all i wanted to wear. True swear. I guess somehow, at some point in my rebellious college self, my dad's love for L/S shirts and my mom's fascination with all things linen rubbed off on me making me hoard of what is now a closet staple thus defining my everyday street style.

Photographs give you the luxury of going back to the past by holding the present moment still. It allows you to re-live and savour life's precious moments in little squares, in any given time, at any given place. It's pretty crazy too, how prints evoke so much emotion, bring up a lot of the past, making you feel like you've made it so far in life in just so little time. It gets you pretty emotional too, just like how this blog post is starting to sound. It's weird- but the good kind.

Samsung Happy Home Road Show Cebu Leg

OUTFIT: Smart Casual
Smart Casual dressing need not to put you in a minefield when going through your closet for outfit ideas. While others get it confused with Business casual, Smart casual is the less dressy urban dressing counterpart. It is a bit complex as it tells you to be somewhere in between easy-breezy everyday wear but definitely nothing too stiff and formal.
Smart casual is anything that makes you look put together, sharp, and straight up neat and stylish. It is not about baring too much skin nor is it about covering your neck and arms and even your toes. To strike this balance, one has to keep in mind that smart casual fills in the gap between between not being too underdressed or overdressed.

For dinner, I decided to wear this button down Grid pattern print top from Memo as this pattern has been the latest craze in town. To make this ensemble look more polished, I buttoned the top all the way up and paired it with palazzo pants and flat mules. Should you wish to take this look from dinner (or lunch) to the boardroom, just swap the flats with heels and you're ready to go.

OUTFIT: Double Denim
If you're looking into creating your very own capsule collection and you don't know how and where to start, I suggest you go for timeless items that you can augment with seasonal pieces to create different looks.
In my case, I always gravitate towards denim pieces as they are my go-to outfit choices on days when I don't know what to wear (We all have those days, right?)
When the A-line skirt trend stole summer, I scoured different shops to look for the perfect fit, cut and wash. Good thing I chanced upon this little piece of wonder at a Penshoppe store tucked away neatly on a shelf next to a pile of denim shorts. I wanted to do arabesque right then and there, i kid you not. haha!
And because I was rotting away in a corner of my closet trying to figure out what to pair this with (and my husband getting a little impatient because it was taking me forever to decide) I went ahead and gave the double denim a try. Well, not that it's the first time that I've tried the trend but it was my first time to do it in this wash. I usually go for the darker shade but im happy that this turned out quite well. When wearing double denim, one can also break the monotonous look by wearing a belt or, just go raw and wear it as it is.
Capsule collections should give you the comfort of knowing you have pieces that you can mix and match, giving you different looks without breaking the bank. This denim a-line skirt is definitely a good addition to my closet essentials.

OUTFIT: Pattern Play
Ventured into the pattern play department wearing this ForMe laser cut top. I do not always mix patterns when dressing up as I find them a bit too busy for my taste but when I do want to give it a go, one thing that I always keep in mind is to pick one pattern or color to dominate the whole look.
For this particular ensemble, I went for the earth tone palette as I find it a little bit flattering for my tan. Besides, white and sand will always have that fresh effect on me. And even though this top comes in a busy grid laser cut pattern design, the very idea that this comes in solid color makes it the best pair for this geometric print skirt. Different patterns, different textures, but they somehow complement each other because of the muted colors of sand + white.

OUTFIT: Double Stripes
I am all about stripes and I have a couple of clothing pieces in this print. They are versatile as they are an essential in every girl's closet. While others shy away from the double stripes ensemble, I on the other hand enjoy wearing two striped items together. The only trick to make this look cohesive is to wear them in the same color scheme.
Wearing two striped pieces together in different colors will make it look too busy and a bit too tacky, so always opt for complementary colors. And to make your head-to-toe print ensemble look more polished, go for neutral hues for your footwear and accessories. This tip is crucial as they offset the busyness of your look, keeping it classy and very put together.
Some of my striped items I scored online and most of them were bought on discount. Thanks to vouchers, I don't have to spend a ton of money on items that I love. OUTFIT: Beachside Hangs
Nothing is more comfortable than a romper while hanging out by the beach. Who's to say that this little piece of casual wear would also look good as a coverup?
This particular beach trip was decided upon on a whim and I only had a few hours to pack all our stuff (mine, my little girl's, my husband's, our grub, etc) and the first thing I reached out for in my closet is this Regatta romper. It's easy to dress up, it's light and it's a standout on its own. I just threw in a hat, my trusty old sunglasses, and a pair of casual slides and just like that, I was all set for an afternoon of beachside hangs.

Security Bank x Childlink Learning Center
Education begins at home, and while good schools are there to further guide our children grow in all developmental aspects, be it socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually, other private organizations pitch in to help kids become the better version of themselves.
Security Bank Cebu Osmena branch headed by BM Imee Kua conducted another financial literacy campaign in partnership with Childlink Learning Center and Highshool last November 17-18, 2015; making it their 3rd successful collaboration with the school. In attendance were from varied age groups ranging from Playgroup, to Kindergarten kids, to middle school and junior high students. The said event highlighted the importance of saving and proper management of money, or in their case, their allowances. Security Bank employees gave out talks and offered tips on how to start saving, how to make smart purchases, and why it is important to live within their means.
Financial literacy is as valuable as any academic program as it teaches the youth on how to be conservative spenders, smart savers and most importantly, financially independent young adults. Security Bank understands this hence the conceptualization and actualization of the financial literacy campaign.

OUTFIT: Rose Quartz
Kicking off my 2016 with a Rose Quartz outfit post- which I'm sure you know by now is one half of Pantone's color of the year this year. Rose Quartz, a warm embracing rose tone is a gentle shade that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. I love how this subtle hue makes for an easy wear for any skin color; it looks good on a fair-skinned gal as it is flattering on a girl with a slightly darker complexion.
For this particular look, I decided to go for light, blush tones to show off my tan (or what's left of it) and snakeskin accent for my accessories (quite possible the only kind of snake I can tolerate, literally and figuratively.)
